While the Queen of England made her debut at London Fashion Week, a more horrendous setting is going on in Milan. Last night Gucci kicked off Milan Fashion Week in style but it was the props that caught everyone’s attention. Creative Director Alessandro Michele worked together with a Rome-based special and visual effects team Makinarium to create nothing but unique objects to go with the models down the runway. From doppelgänger doll heads to baby dragons. Sorry Daenerys, but there’s a Gucci dragon in town!
Besides all the creepy props, it was also the catwalk that was transformed into a horror show. A Gucci laboratory that is, including fluorescent light and a doctor’s bed staged in the middle of the catwalk. Fortunately, no one was in need of an operation apart from the hard-working design team, who worked for six months on creating some of the extraordinary pieces. Fashion designer Alessandro explained that the (horror) setting was a symbol of artists in general: “Our job (as creatives) is a surgical job: cutting and assembling and experimenting on the operating table,” Very creative indeed, Mr Gucci.

Presenting the #GucciFW18 show space. The concept reflects the work of a designer—the act of cutting, splicing and reconstructing materials and fabrics to create a new personality and identity with them. The materials used are typical of an operating room and the environment around it: PVC on the walls and floors, fire doors with panic-bars, LED lamps, and plastic chairs like those in a waiting room. The LED lighting is stark, white and blinding. Watch the show live on Instagram Stories or through link in bio at 3PM CET. #mfw
