No worries if you’re planning on visiting Paris anytime soon because the Louvre isn’t going anywhere. The only difference is that it’s opening a second location in Abu Dhabi on 21 December. Just like in Paris, not only the paintings will be worth a visit since the architecture of the building is out-of-this-world.
The new Louvre is located in Saadiyat, a neighbourhood where currently multiple tourism-cultural projects are taking place. The building is designed by Jean Nouvel, who’s known for projects, such as Quai Branly in Paris and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. The Louvre Abu Dhabi consists of 50 buildings, which are all connected to form one big ‘museum city’. Besides the stunning architecture, you can admire loads of world-famous works of art, which are mostly borrowed from French museums. In total, the museum displays 20 expositions, which tell a 12-part story.
