Fish and chips are the ultimate British staple, and, thanks to United Chip, our much-loved tradition is entering an exciting new era. Brought to us by the team behind All Star Lanes and Steve Collins (Launch and Head Chef of Corbin & King’s Bellanger and Conran Group Veteran), United Chip is now open on Clerkenwell Road, London. With an award-winning repertoire that includes Head Chef positions at Bellanger and Quaglinos, paired with a passion for fish and chips, Executive Chef Steve Collins is well placed to deliver something truly special. And with the team who brought us All Star Lanes by his side, it’s hardly surprising that the look and feel of the brand is as strong as the food is good.
The 32-cover restaurant has a contemporary and vibrant design, featuring ‘millennial’ pinks and soft greys, with modern standalone table and bench units, soft lighting and retro lettering. It’s an interior that lingers in your memory – befitting for a brand that puts a unique spin on the humble chippy, doing for fish and chips what Hawksmoor did for steaks, Meatliquor for burgers and Polpo, for small plates.
The concise menu stays true to the classic take on fish and chips, but does it that much better. Choose from sustainable, high-quality fish (Atlantic cod, Haddock or Pollock), superior chips, including traditional or Belgian frites, as well as buns such as Soft shell crab burger and Bangkok prawn burger. Meat fans will love the Battered Dingley Del Cumberland sausage and for sides, think mushy peas, battered gherkin, and an exceptional curry sauce. Mop everything up with the unique complimentary sauces, whether tartare, sweet chili, Bangkok mayo or aioli. Elsewhere, calamari or scampi cones are available and if you feel like some of the hard stuff, a selection of drinks including craft beers, wine and Prosecco will spice up your evening.
Of course, all food is available to take away, so whether you want to whisk your dinner home, brighten up your working week with lunch out or relax with friends in the evening over a few drinks, United Chip covers all bases. The future of fish and chips has arrived.
