Europe’s first underwater restaurant won’t be the only unique addition to the Norway coastline. The design company behind the former project, Snøhetta, has unveiled its plans for another exclusive hotel, Svart, which will be the world’s first energy positive hotel above the arctic circle. Besides its positive impact on the environment, it will also come with astonishing views as the hotel will be located at the foot of Norway’s Almlifjellet mountain in the clear waters of the Holandsfjorden fjord. Oh, and of course this is the perfect location for admiring the Northern Lights.
The circle-shaped-hotel will be placed on wooden poles in the water, making it blend with its surroundings and focusing on a minimal footprint. This way, the hotel can only be accessed by boat. Every single architectural choice reflects the company’s desire to ensure that the hotel is energy positive: ‘building in such a precious environment comes with some clear obligations in terms of preserving the natural beauty and the fauna and flora of the site,’ says founding partner at snøhetta, kjetil trædal thorsen. ‘it was important for us to design a sustainable building that will leave a minimal environmental footprint on this beautiful northern nature.’ Sounds like the perfect place to admire nature without ruining it. Unfortunately, no information is available yet on when the hotel will open.
