Even though the latest Saint Laurent fashion show was located under the bright lights of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a dedication to the designer, who passed away in 2008, just opened in Marrakech. Here the French designer spend a lot of time designing his collections and now his holiday home has been turned into a spectacular museum with over a thousand of his items on display.
Yves’ decision to buy a holiday home in Marrakech in 1966 was due to the colours of the city which gave him endless inspiration: “Marrakech has given me colour. Before Marrakech everything was black.” Paris was his place of creation but in Marrakech, Yves got his inspiration. This is immediately visible when just looking at the unique museum building and its colours. Inside the Musée Yves Saint Laurent, couture, accessories, sketches, photos and film are displayed, such as the famous Mondrian dress and women’s smoking. This one’s definitely on our travel list.
Marrakech a bit too far for you but still want to admire Yves’ creations? You can also visit the Yves Saint Laurent museum in Paris.
