Drunk Yoga exists and all you need is a bottle of wine and yoga mat

Yoga is all about feeling comfortable in your own body and calming the mind. A bit of downward facing dog or meditation can help with this but what better way to do this than to really let go, perhaps with a glass of alcohol on the side? As the motto of Yoga is to include everyone it’s no surprise that after Beer Yoga, a wine-version now exists, where you don’t say namaste but more like Chardonnay. Drunk Yoga, here we come!

The new yoga trend has been introduced by New York City-based yoga instructor Eli Walker and is slowly being introduced in other countries. Eli explains why she decided to combine wine and yoga:

“By integrating yoga with wine, I’m highlighting the communal aspects of both through a soulful celebration of mindful movement for the purpose of cultivating happiness, and I believe that happiness is health.” And wine equals happiness, we couldn’t agree more! Besides health benefits, there’s the obvious reason why wine is a good combination when it comes to yoga moves, which we had to learn the hard way on a drunk night out, because “one is more flexible when drunk.” Yep, we can confirm that one.

I’ve had a lot of people, whether in classes, or friends, or people I met at parties say something like, ‘I’d love to try yoga but I can’t because I’m not flexible, or too afraid I’d look stupid. I thought it would be fun to turn yoga into more of a party. If I made it into a game it would make people more comfortable.

Who’s up for a yoga part?
