Summer, can you hear us? Screw that, life is too short to stick to seasons, it should be summer every day! A new hotspot in Amsterdam which seems to agree with us is the tropical bar ‘De Tulp’, named after the tulip-shaped glass in which Dutch gin is served. Sounds like the perfect place! Founded by the owners of two other popular bars in Amsterdam, Pesca and de Kopstaatbar, it’s a guaranteed success.
The colourful entrance filled with a jungle of plants and some serious Caribbean vibes immediately gives you the feeling as though you’ve been transported to a much warmer country (South-America is that you?!). These vibes continue inside where the tables have been put aside to create space where you can show off your dance moves (or admire others). Outside you can hang around and grab a drink, where there’s self-service and heaters during the winter.
De Tulp only serves food on platters, which makes it the perfect place to share food for those who can’t decide. You can choose from various platters on which 3 small dishes are served. For dinner, you can also choose between two different sized platters. If platters aren’t really your thing you can always go for a sandwich, salad or grilled toast for lunch.
De Tulp is located in Amsterdam’s neighbourhood De Pijp, which is known for its many (good) bars and restaurants. Due to the booming vibes in the neighbourhood, de Tulp wants to involve the locals in their organisation. Therefore, they organise multiple activities, such as a special children’s programme on Sunday afternoon. Here kids can sign-up for DJ-lessons and other activities, such as, bingo for kids and breaking the world record for swinging.
De Tulp is open from Monday until Thursday and on Sunday from 11 a.m. till 1 a.m. for lunch and dinner, snacks and cocktails. On Friday and Saturday, the bar’s open till 3 a.m.
